watching emily in paris and there's this weird phenomenon happening to camille which i see in shows all the time these days which is technically not queerbaiting but something vaguely reminiscent of it. camille is a very important, three-dimensional character, but then when she finally gets to have a relationship with a woman (which was hinted at/joked about in earlier seasons), it's not nearly as fleshed out as the straight relationships around her. and it's not necessarily about her being queer because there's many important queer characters in the show and it's not really about it being two female characters either because at there are so many female friendships which are genuine and important, including the one between the main character and camille, which could be argued centers a man but in the end still is a real friendship which is significant to the show. so while there get to be fleshed-out queer characters who have fleshed-out relationships with people of the same gender, the second those relationships become romantic they become undeserving of the same treatment. what is that called

I'm increasingly convinced that the implication is that since emoverse!Gabriel is not a supervillain and a horrible parent, he didn't keep Adrien's bad emotions under control the way canon Gabriel did by abusing Adrien into becoming compulsively convenient and passive.

So, the lack of excessive abusive control allowed Badrien's volatile emotions to get the better of him, resulting in him becoming a dangerously violent supervillain.

These implications, while horrifying, align pretty well with the unfortunate s5 message that Adrien is just too emotionally volatile and immature to deserve things like autonomy or full human rights or informed choices or an active role in his own life-narrative. He can only be Good Enough by giving away his capacity for agency and succumbing to the completely passive Perfect Victimhood; an object, not a subject in the story. S5 presents us with a scenario where Adrien needs to have a more rational abuser/owner/controller keeping him swaddled in psychological bubble wrap and out of the loop and ensuring that he remains compulsively convenient and doesn't start getting uppity, like standing up for himself or thinking he deserves to be treated as an equal, or thinking that his feelings matter (his feelings are bad and inconvenient and dangerous, remember?)

This way, Gabriel's and Nathalie's treatment of Adrien was supposedly """justified""" all along and Not Real Abuse, and also, it's okay for Marinette and the others in-the-know to keep treating Adrien in a very Gabrielcore way after Gabriel died and passed the mantle of Adrien's owner-controller-gaslighter to them (Marinette in particular).

...yeah, the showrunners really ran with the implications that some kids just need to be abused in order for them to stay Good and Virtuous.

Canon Adrien can do that, movie!Adrien, who's lost his mother from even younger age, can do that so why this one, with good father can't? Seriously though, if it's movie!Adrien who take this route I can perfectly see it because Gabriel is neglecting him and he's already pretty jaded there. But an Adrien who supposedly have good father, can't move on? It feels like the math isn't mathing. Although it would be different matter if this Adrien think his father is the reason why his mother dead, then yeah, maybe it's a little bit more make senses.

It's 100% legit. It's not even a leak, it's just a bunch of spoilers from the novelization of the special that released on October 4th.

And I agree about Adrien being unable to move on from his mother's death being BS. Like, I understand that people process grief differently and not everyone can move on so quickly, but like, this is Adrien. Our Adrien moved on while being stuck with an abusive parent, why didn't the same Adrien move on when Gabe is like, supposedly a good parent? Movie Adrien was a good exploration of this, but he was a different version of Adrien entirely with a different characterization. Shadrien is supposed to be the same guy but in a different world with different circumstances but the same character. And I know that circumstances can shape your personality, but that's all the more reason for why this makes no sense lol. By all logic, Shadrien should be faring better than our Adrien considering that he had a stable upbringing and a father who would help him through his grief. It doesn't add up.

Emily Prentiss leaned over her desk, smirking as she nudged Derek Morgan. "Here comes Spencer's kryptonite."

You breezed past their desks, offering them a warm smile. "Morning, Emily. Derek."

"Morning, gorgeous," Derek said, flashing you his signature charm.

"Nice dress, Y/N," Emily added, her tone teasing. "You know, this is a federal building, not Paris Fashion Week, right?"

You laughed, stopping briefly at her desk. "What can I say? I like to keep things interesting."

Across the bullpen, Spencer Reid sat stiffly at his desk, pretending to read the file in front of him. In reality, he was hyper-aware of your every move. His fingers toyed with the edge of his notebook, and his heart pounded as he tried to calm his nerves.

When you finally approached his desk, he felt like the air had been knocked out of his lungs.

"Good morning, Dr. Reid," you said, placing a file on his desk. Your perfume was light but intoxicating, and the way you leaned slightly toward him made his palms sweat.

Spencer peeked at you through his fingers, his blush deepening. "You do?"

"Of course," you said, your voice softening.

Later, in the conference room, the team gathered to discuss the case. You took a seat at the head of the table, confidently laying out your analysis of the unsub’s language patterns.

"The use of archaic phrasing and formal sentence structure suggests someone who’s either highly educated or attempting to appear that way," you explained, flipping through your notes. "Additionally, the recurring themes in their letters—justice, punishment, purification—indicate a fixation on moral absolutes. This unsub likely has a rigid worldview shaped by trauma or indoctrination."

You looked up, your expression softening. "Yes, Spence?"

"I was wondering if… maybe you’d like to go out for coffee sometime? Or tea. Or, um, whatever you like to drink," he rushed out.

You blinked, momentarily stunned by his courage. Then, a slow smile spread across your face. "I’d love to."

"R-Really?" he asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.

"Really," you said, stepping closer. "Pick me up at seven. And don’t be late, Doctor."

As you walked away, Emily and Derek appeared from around the corner, both grinning like kids on Christmas morning.

"Finally!" Emily whispered.

Derek chuckled. "Took him long enough."

Spencer, still frozen in place, couldn’t stop the goofy smile that spread across his face.

i adore sumptuous antique dolls and their trousseaus. please do talk of anything you know of them.

They're pretty and important and I felt deeply ripped off by Y2K-era doll culture when I read the description of The Last Doll in A Little Princess as a child:

"She sat down on the floor and turned the key. The children crowded clamoring around her, as she lifted tray after tray and revealed their contents. Never had the schoolroom been in such an uproar. There were lace collars and silk stockings and handkerchiefs;there was a jewel case containing a necklace and a tiara which looked quite as if they were made of real diamonds; there was a long sealskin [stole] and muff; there were ball dresses and walking dresses and visiting dresses; there were hats and tea gowns and fans."

The description of Emily, Sara's main doll, also sent me into transports of imagination:

"She certainly had a very intelligent expression in her eyes when Sara took her in her arms. She was a large doll, but not too large to carry about easily; she had naturally curling golden-brown hair, which hung like a mantle about her, and her eyes were a deep gray-blue with soft, thick eyelashes which were real eyelashes and not mere painted lines."

The only thing that came close to the idea of a Doll With Trousseau when I was a child- meaning that you could get all sorts of accessories for your doll beyond just clothing, almost everything a real person had -was the delight of the American Girl catalogue

LOOK AT ALL THE LITTLE THINGS. LOOK AT THEM. The pages for modern dolls had lots of treasures, too, and I pored over those as well- but that was Normal Clothing and therefore boring. not the fantastic, princess-like garments of the historical dolls (because that was the only reference point I had for Little Girls Who Wear Dresses All The Time; as a Millennial child, I grew up in jeans except on fancy occasions)

and they were good-quality, unlike what you get from AG today. but I digress

the problem with American Girl was that they weren't "pretty dolls," by which I meant Lady Dolls. child dolls only sort of interested me, baby dolls not at all. grown-up ladies from the past REALLY looked like princesses (even the poor ones! by which I meant "peasant" outfits worn by various Disney princesses, natch)

Barbie was nearing the end of the era where you could easily buy clothing for her in stores without buying a whole new doll. Bratz were entirely focused on modern fashion with no history or fantasy, and anyway I thought they looked mean. so that was a no-go

I mean they truly had everything for these dolls in the late 19th-early 20th century- the dolls themselves were only half the revenue stream, with clothing making up the other half. or sometimes even more. have you ever wanted scented writing-paper for your dolls? that was a thing in late 1860s Paris. it was wild

go to a doll show sometime if you get the chance. those sales rooms are the closest you'll get to the experience of one of those fine old doll shops nowadays, and they're still pretty magical

This doll has a full six dresses (unfortunately not pictured) and a paragraph of accessories, typed, including a tiny etched glass perfume bottle to hang from her tiny chatelaine. it's so wonderful I'm going to punch a wall. anyway
